Imagine this. You feel perky, and you flip your hair while you turn; you look at your boyfriend and run your hands through your hair with a romantic smile; you have no time for accessories, and you wear your hair down, as one. The sense of content you would feel when you braid your hair and the thickness of the braid equals the width of your wrist. Hair, somehow, has an emotional connection. It can make or break the confidence of a person. A million-dollar question that keeps people awake at night is, ‘how to get long, thick and natural hair?’. Everywhere you turn there are beauty tips for hair fall.
There are chemical treatments that are as fake as a china product, and there are natural treatments that are just a fragment of someone’s imagination.
Till today, the exact treatment for hair loss and the measurement of how well it works are not clear. Though restoring natural hair after someone has gone bald might seem like a myth, there are genuinely certain natural ingredients that restore the natural, colour, texture and the strength of your hair.
In this post, I would like to talk about a few home remedies that will not only stop your hair loss but also increase the thickness of your hair.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) rinse
ACV is a brown liquid obtained from fermented apples. It is a natural ingredient that has multiple benefits. Said to help with diabetics, weight loss and skin exfoliation, ACV is a simple ingredient that can be store-bought.
ACV rinse is a routine that people follow to maintain the natural shine of their hair. It contains acetic acid, a low pH level and probiotics and makes your hair soft and silky.
The shampoos that we use these days contain chemicals that don’t easily wash off. Even if we use a chemical-free shampoo, dust, pollution outside tend to leave a residue on your hair cuticles.
When you wash your hair with ACV once a week, it can help you to get rid of all the dirt and chemical build-up from your hair. When the build-up from your hair is gone, it can finally be able to breathe and grow.
Also, the low pH in ACV can help to maintain the pH of your hair cuticles. Hair cuticles are the outermost layer of your hair and protect it from any external harm.
When the pH increases, the skins open up, leaving the hair vulnerable. If it is low, the cuticles remain intact and protect the hair.
Using ACV will help to restore the pH balance required to close the hair cuticles and give shine to the hair. It has antibacterial properties and can be used on the scalp to remove any itchiness or dandruff from it.
What do you need?
- 1-2 tablespoons of ACV
- 3-5 tablespoons of water
- 1-2 teaspoons of pure coconut oil (optional)
How to rinse?
- Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well.
- Wash your hair thoroughly.
- Spray the mixture and let it soak for 5 minutes.
- Rinse the ACV out with water.
- Repeat once a week.
Points to keep in mind
- Rinse thoroughly after you leave the ACV for 5 minutes.
- Choose the right AVC, which is raw and unfiltered.
- Do not rinse using AVC more than twice a week. They tend to dry out your hair.
2. Garlic treatment

Garlic is one ingredient that is present in every household. Did you know that garlic can aid hair growth?
If you have heard about it, it’s time for you to know more and start including it in as a part of your hair routine as it is one of the best hair regrowth treatment.
You make use of it in the form of oil. We’ll get to that later. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of garlic is its pungent smell.
Garlic can lower your blood pressure, provide antioxidants and control cholesterol levels. 2-3 cloves of garlic a day can be a huge health benefit. Also, garlic contains specific sulphur components. These sulphur components play a huge role in keeping your heart healthy as well as in hair growth.
The keratin in the hair feeds on the sulphur in garlic and become enriched. The anti-inflammatory properties in garlic help to clear the scalp of any dirt accumulation, dandruff and dry flakiness.
Vitamin C in garlic helps in providing antioxidants to promote hair growth.
What do you need to prepare the oil?
- Take ½ cup of coconut oil and eight cloves of garlic.
- Chop the garlic and put them in a pan along with the oil.
- Keep the flame on simmer and stir until the garlic starts to jump.
- Once the colour of the garlic turns brown, turn off the flame.
- Strain the mixture and allow the oil to cool.
How to apply?
- Apply the oil on your scalp and massage slowly.
- Massage for 5-10 minutes and tie your hair up in a bun.
- Let the magic work for an hour.
- Wash your hair with a mild shampoo, thoroughly.
Points to keep in mind
- It would be best to use pure coconut oil for this mix instead of refined.
- Use this oil before hair wash. After you wash your hair, you won’t notice any trace of garlic.
3. Small Onion juice

Enhance hair growth by applying the juice of small onion. Let me explain. These onions are rich in a plant nutrient called Quercetin.
It has antioxidant properties that can protect hair from any external damages like pollution and dust. They are also high in proteins and amino acids; it’s called biotin; it is the cluster of vitamins that assist hair growth.
They also contain Vitamin C that has anti-inflammatory properties that can clean the scalp of any build-ups. They also contain sulphur which can help in making the hair follicles healthy and thick; the same property as garlic has.
Applying small onion juice for hair growth has been in practice for a long time now. It is even said to have helped with hair regrowth in bald spots. Both men and women have found this ingredient helpful.
Although the treatment time and result might vary from person to person, for some, the hair growth might be noticeable within weeks, and for some, it takes months. On the bright side, it is a readily available ingredient and doesn’t have any side effects.
What do you need?
- An onion
- Coconut oil
How to apply?
- Grind the onion into a fine paste and filter the juice out.
- For two tablespoons of coconut oil, add one tablespoon of onion juice.
- Apply the mix from the scalp throughout the hair length.
- Tie a bun and let the onion juice to work for at least 20 minutes to a maximum of 30 minutes.
- Wash your hair with a mind shampoo.
Points to keep in mind
- Be sure that you are not allergic to onions.
- Do not follow this process for more than once a week.
3. Aloe vera

With spending the lowest cost, it is possible to prepare a hair mask at home. Aloe vera is my favourite ingredient for both face and hair. You have to buy a plant, leave it on your porch and water it occasionally.
Voila! You got Aloe.
Aloe vera contains tons of vitamins and nutrients that enhance hair growth and make it thicker. One property of Aloe is to nourish your hair and remove all the dead cells from the hair and skin. As said earlier, when your hair can breathe, it can grow.
What do you need?
- Aloe vera
- Coconut oil
- Olive oil or any other essential oil (optional)
How to use?
Note: If you have aloe vera plant at home, well and good; if not, you can buy Aloe vera gel at any store.
- Take Aloe vera leaf. Peel the outer layer with a knife and scoop the gel out.
- Mix the gel with 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil and one spoon of essential oil.
- Apply on the hair and scalp and leave it for half an hour.
- Wash with a mild shampoo and air dry.
On a final note, be sure to use SLS and Paraben free shampoos to notice the effect of the home remedy.
